1870: Apsley Common School commenced operations on 19th June, under the leadership of Head teacher Annie Hamilton. Classes were initially held in a modest wooden structure situated behind the Apsley bakery. After the enactment of the 1872 Act, it was designated as SS1208.
1880: Witnessing growth and demand, a substantial schoolroom was erected near the original Town Hall, expanding the school's capacity and resources.
Post-World War II: The establishment of soldier settlements led to a surge in student enrollments, prompting the use of a vacant shop and the supper room of the old Hall to alleviate overcrowding issues. Subsequently, an old school from the Lillimur district was relocated to Apsley, placed on a ten-acre swampy area. This building, known as the "little school," accommodated infant classes but proved unsuitable due to winter dampness.
1964-1965: A pivotal shift occurred as a new four-room concrete veneer building emerged atop a rise covered with sandy terrain and scrub, located south of the Apsley Post Office. The official inauguration took place on 19th March 1965 during the back-to-Apsley celebrations, marked by the honorable presence of Assistant Minister of Education, Hon. J.F. Rassiter, MLA. Prior to construction, the School Committee orchestrated efforts to clear 30 acres of scrub and plant 23 acres with pines for windbreak purposes.
2004: A significant upgrade transformed the school's administrative areas and integration facilities, courtesy of a $135,000 grant secured for the project. Federal Government Grants in 2006, 2007, and 2009 further facilitated enhancements and the acquisition of new equipment.
2010: The Building the Education Revolution Program contributed to the construction of a new building housing a classroom, kitchen, and a small tutoring room. Additionally, an outdoor learning area was developed under this program, enriching the school's educational environment.
This timeline encapsulates the evolution and development of Apsley Primary School, marking key milestones in its journey from its inception to its modern-day infrastructure and facilities.
